My delicious avocado & chipotle burgers are inspired by one of my favorite local restaurants.  It’s located in a historic building that dates back before the Revolutionary War.  It was a primary meeting place for troop messengers and officers during the Revolutionary War; in fact, General Lafayette is known to have stopped at the inn while General George Washington was nearby! When President Abraham Lincoln called additional troops to defend the Union during the American Civil War, rallies were held there.  I love the fact that there is so much American history in my little NJ town, so it’s totally fitting to highlight my fave local restaurant for Independence Day!

California Burgers | Delish D'Lites

The Fresh Market has made-in-store Gourmet Burgers studded with flavorful ingredients, from bacon and cheddar to portabella mushroom and Gouda. There is a flavor combo for everyone to love, and they are so much better than those frozen hockey pucks you see at most 4th of July barbecues.  They even have ready-made sides like yummy Broccoli Cranberry Slaw to round of your July 4th spread.

My California burgers  feature 100% beef patty grilled to perfection on toasted The Fresh Market brioche buns, and it’s topped with melted Monterey Jack cheese, creamy avocado,  pickled red onions, and spicy chipotle mayo. To round out my spread, I’m gonna celebrate the stars and stripes with patriotic desserts, red, white and blue chips and gorgeous fruit tarts, thanks to the Fresh Market!

Total Time 30 minutes
Servings 4

Ingredients

  • 4 The Fresh Market Gourmet Burgers
  • 4 The Fresh Market Brioche Buns
  • 4 slices The Fresh Market Pre-Sliced Pepper Jack Cheese
  • 1/2 cup pickled red onions
  • 1 ripe hass avocado
  • Salt & pepper
  • store bought chipotle mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Season the beef burgers patties with salt and pepper.  Use your thumb to press an indent into the center of each patty, to keep the burgers from bulging when they cook.

  2. Cook the burgers on a preheated grill on medium high heat for 5-6 minutes, until seared. Flip the burgers and cook them for another 4-5 minutes for medium rare, or a bit longer if you want them to be well done.

  3. Add a slice of pepper jack cheese to each burger, and cook for another 2 minutes, or until the chese melted.

  4. Toast the brioche buns, if desired.

  5. Place a burger on the bottom half of your toasted bun. Top each slider with a few slices of avocado, pickled red onion, and a drizzle of the chipotle mayo.
